For most job seekers, a resume is the first contact with a potential employer. How to make the best impression that the curriculum vitae (or CV) does not fit into the competitive offer?
What does a curriculum vitae include
A resume should definitely not bore a potential employer at first sight. Therefore, do not write a study that resembles a style exercise, but choose a structured (questionnaire) form.
It is necessary to mention all the important details regarding your professional life. In addition to your name, date of birth and residence, do not forget to include contact information (phone, e-mail).
In the second part of the training, start with the highest level of education achieved. Definitely don’t include elementary school on your CV (= CV) if you have received at least an apprenticeship certificate or a high school diploma. Indicate the years of study, the name of the institution, the field of study, the degree obtained or the method of completion.
Students usually give an expected graduation date. Also list in this section the courses and trainings you attended.
Also proceed in chronological order in the third part, dedicated to professional experience. If your career is long and there are more jobs, focus on the last 10-15 years. This information carries more weight for both HR and employers.
List the years (and months for shorter positions) that you worked for the employer, the employer’s name and address, and position, and briefly describe what you did at the company.
It is not necessary to provide recommendations or your salary estimate in this section.
The last part of the resume is the so-called other skills. Indicate your computer skills, knowledge of foreign languages, special skills, as well as types of driver’s licenses.
Here you can list everything that your future employer needs to know about you – what conferences or internships you have attended, what unusual hobbies you have (for example, self-education, helping with charity, individual or team sports, etc.).
The future employer will also get an idea of you as a person – are you an extrovert or an introvert, you will not have problems working in a team, whether you have leadership qualities.
Most HR and employees prefer resumes with a portrait photo. This is not necessary, but if you decide (or must) attach a photo, then definitely do not use photos taken privately at celebrations or holidays. If you don’t have an up-to-date passport photo, invest in your future again and ask a professional to take a picture.
