Despite being a swashbuckling mystery film, DURGAMATI has a few flaws. Its opening scene, where a saffron-stole-wearing individual claims that the thefts are an attack on Hindutva and the government, and later promises to leave politics if the idols are not returned, is gimmicky and unnecessary. Bhumi is a good actor, but a terrible on-screen shouter. Her character as Durgamati is uncomfortably screechy, and there’s an intermission point where she asks a psychiatrist to tell her secrets.
